Your solution to reducing waiting line

Queues

A queue is a line of things or people waiting for their turn to be attended to or acquire a particular service.
In many public service providing stations in Tanzania, queues are almost unavoidable, which bring many challenges for those who use the related services.

Long waiting time and queues at places offering public services such as hospitals, have often been blamed on shortage of health workers and inadequate hospital infrastructure. If doctors and patients were able to manage their time well, the long queues that we often see at hospitals could have been reduced to a large extent in the hopitals

“I didn’t want to miss my appointment with the doctor at 9:30a.m. I thought being timely meant I would not have to wait for so long to get services but I was wrong. I was only allowed to see the doctor at noon,” said Mr Mnubi, who took a bus from Bunju to Muhimbili for his diabetes check as he sat on a bench at the Out Patient Department (OPD).

Queues are caused by various factors and differ from one place to another depending on the extent of the factors, which leads to time wastage, dropping of economy and life risking. Some factors lead to queues:

  1. Scarcity of service providing stations - in most Tanzanian society this is the major cause of queues since there are no/few other places to opt to.
  2. Lack of enough staff - this being a major deciding factor for the speed of service provision highly causes long queues whenever.
  3. A series of long procedures people have to pass through before acquiring a particular service  - in hospitals a person may have an appointment booked but has to go through a series of long procedures before actually meeting the doctor in concern.
